This News&Observer article details a lawsuit where a couple won $25 million due to the nuisance presented by the hog lagoons next door to their house. This is one of many cases brought to the courts against smithfield by the farm’s neighbors. However, the new Farm act prevents further cases from pursuing compensation from Nuisance conditions surrounding farms.
