I Am A Man Live Facebook Conversation with Dr. William Ferris

January 30, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

On Saturday, January 30, at noon (Eastern), join Pamela D. C. Junior and Dr. William Ferris for a virtual conversation on the origins of the new special exhibition, I AM A MAN: Civil Rights Photographs in the American South, 1960–1970, opening at the Two Mississippi Museums. The program will be streamed live from the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum Facebook page. Viewers are encouraged to participate in the Q&A through the Facebook chat.

First shown in Montpellier, France, at the Pavillon Populaire in 2018, the I AM A MAN exhibit documents the hope and determination of the Civil Rights Movement in the face of oppression and violence. William R. Ferris, curator of the original exhibit, will share stories of his work behind the scenes of the exhibit in France and feature several of his favorite images from the exhibit. Ferris is the Joel R. Williamson Eminent Professor of History Emeritus at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and is the former chairman of the National Endowment of the Humanities, and founding director of the Center for the Study of Southern Culture at the University of Mississippi. He has received numerous awards and accolades for his research in southern culture.
