Congratulations as your art envisions a shared future!

Three artists participating in the Imagining UNC’s Future with Art project are among eight University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill students named 2019-2020 Incubator Award Recipients. Cortland Gilliam, De’Ivyion Drew, and Jerry Jameel Wilson are collaborating on a visual arts project that examines representations of blackness within the UNC-Chapel Hill community and explores the experiences of black students. The three students have shared previous works in #BlackOutLoudUNC at the Center for the Study of the American South. They will join other artists, this spring, in displaying a range of public art projects from sculpture to performance art at the Love House, where the Center is located. Through Imagining UNC’s Future with Art, the Center asked artists to envision the future of the university and provided grants to selected applicants. The Center sees art as a vehicle for reckoning and change, a way to imagine healing, establish a common vision, and rebuild community. We congratulate project participants Gilliam, Drew, and Jameel and all of the Incubator Award recipients.  Stay tuned for the opening date of the Imagining UNC’s Future with Art exhibition.
