Kent Reilly – The Art and Iconography of the Ancient American South (2/16/12) from CSAS on Vimeo.

Dr. Reilly’s research interest is in the study of the visual artifacts of ancient civilizations as valuable works of art in themselves, not just as documentary evidence of the past. His chief areas of interest include the art and symbols of the ancient Olmec (1200-400 BC), and Classic Maya (AD 200-900) cultures. His current interests include the prehistoric Mississippian Period of the Southeast. The introduction will be made by Vin Steponaitis, professor of Anthropology, and director of Research Labs of Archaeology, UNC.

Kent Reilly is Director, Center for the Study of Arts and Symbolism of Ancient America, and professor in the Anthropology Department at Texas State University, San Marcos, Texas.
