Ellis Anderson – The Other Katrina (12/1/11) from CSAS on Vimeo.

Memoirist Ellis Anderson spoke about her book Under Surge, Under Siege: The Odyssey of Bay St. Louis and Katrina (University Press of Mississippi, 2010), which takes readers into the heart of Hurricane Katrina in this small Mississippi town. In addition to a riveting personal account of survival, her book also looks at the aftermath of the storm, chronicling the first three years of recovery. Under Surge, Under Siege received the 2010 Eudora Welty Book Award and the Mississippi Librarians’ Association Award for Creative Nonfiction.

Ms. Anderson was introduced by Gavin Smith, the Executive Director of the UNC Center for the Study of Natural Hazards and Disasters. Dr. Smith’s new book, Planning for Post Disaster Recovery: A Review of the United States Disaster Assistance Framework, will be published by Island Press.
