What do blended musical genres and black architecture have in common with poetry slams? How did Creoles of color campaign for school desegregation in postbellum New Orleans?

Join us for a friendly, informal poster session as we learn about recent graduate and undergraduate research funded by CSAS grants and fellowships. Award recipients completed innovative projects in the fields of History, Anthropology, Music, Environment & Ecology, and American Studies. Come hear about their projects and ask how the Center can help you and your students with your own!

This event is free and open to the public. Tasty morsels will be provided.

SRC Poster Session, Fri, Sept 23 at 3:00 pm

SRC-15

Join us for a public poster session, as our 2016 grant and fellowship recipients present their summer (and ongoing) research with the Southern Research Circle (SRC). Successful applicants were awarded from UNC-Chapel Hill’s departments of Geography, Anthropology, Music, English & Comparative Literature, City & Regional Planning, and American Studies.

These students examined competing models of municipal recovery after major storms, engaged in archeological digs, performed with Afro-Cuban jazz musicians, and interviewed survivors of environmental disasters, to mention just a few of their impressive projects. Stop by to see the exciting new directions these young scholars are moving in their respective fields of study.

This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

IMG_0277Join us for an informal poster session as we learn about some of the summer research funded by CSAS grants and fellowships. Successful applicants investigated a new southern language community (the Karen people of Chapel Hill and Carrboro, originally from Myanmar); worked to preserve archival documents from the historic black town of Mound Bayou, Mississippi; tracked regional changes in southern biodiversity from space; examined textile mill redevelopment and “moral rehabilitation” at southern prisons, and much more. Come and share their interesting findings, as well as some light refreshments.

This event is free and open to the public.
